This slave house was located at 415 Bascus Street, Lake View, South Carolina. It was owned by Elias Barfield Ford who was a slave owner in Marion County, South Carolina. Johnson Pete Ford was one of Elias Barfield Ford's slaves. Johnson Pete was born around 1822 in Marion County, South Carolina. When Johnson Pete was freed, he purchased the slave house. This was a great accomplishment because Johnson Pete once lived in the house as a slave. He married Amy Page and they raised fourteen children in the house: Allen, Tom, Charles, Allen, Henry, David, Frank, Caroline, Lucy, Jane, Jimmie, Hattie, Hannah, William, Leazer, and Ransom. Johnson Pete and Elias Ford's must have had a special relationship because he owned most of the land after he was freed. It has been suggested that Elias and Johnson Pete may have been half brothers. Jesse Ford, the father of Elias, may have had Johnson Pete with a slave woman. Elias Barfield Ford died on June 23, 1884 at 74. Johnson Pete died around 1912 at 90.
